Since I would start studying in the UK starting September, me and my parents fly over a few days before school started to adjust to the time zone. In the few days, we did a bit of birding around the London area. We had a few walks around Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens, where we saw some common British birds. These includes Robins, Grey Wagtails, Great Cormorants, Rose Ringed Parakeets, Common Pochards and Graylag Geese.
因为我九月会去英国开学，我和我的家长八月眉飞到伦敦准备开学。在伦敦我们看到几份欧亚鸲，灰鶺鴒，普通鸕鷀，紅領綠鸚鵡，红头潜鸭和灰雁。

Along the main lake, there were quite a few Great Crested Grebe, Red Crested Pochards, Eurasian Green Woodpecker, Great Tit and Eurasian Jay.

Since my school was in Surrey, we headed there after a few nights in London where we would remain before my school started. On a walk in a forest park near my hotel, I managed to find a extremely confusing Common Firecrest, which was my lifer! A Eurasian Treecreeper was also seen, which was another lifer, and a few Mandarin Ducks.

The day before my school started, I met up with a friend where he showed me around Staines reservoir. Prior to my visit, this site has been getting quite a lot of attention because water levels were low, attracting large numbers of waders. Once we arrived, I noticed a few Black Terns sitting on a small manmade island, which was a lifer for me. A few Common Terns were there too.

A Little Gull had been spotted here in the previous days, and after a bit of scanning I noticed it flying around, its small size and back pattern was a dead giveaway, but it remained far the entire time. Staines reservoir has a resident Eared Grebe population, thanks to my friend who found me one which was right next to the bank. A large flock of Linnets flew around the reservoirs.

Most of the waders were all out on the sandbank, which required a scope in order to get any IDable views. Thanks to some birders with scopes, we got eyes on a Curlew Sandpiper and many Ruffs. A common greenshank and black tailed godwit also flew closer for a better look. Another birder also managed to pick out a few common goldeneye (my lifer!!), and I managed views through his scope, and managed a very blurry record pic. The last lifer I got was common ringed plovers, there were a few feeding on the sandbank.

The next day, the morning before school started we visited Unstead Wetland, where I got a quick look at a Barred Grass Snake along with a few Field Voles.

After 3 weeks of staying in school, there was a weekend leave where all students had to leave. Since my parents were back in HK, I had to go to Brighton where my guardian was. Over the weekend, I had a few chances to go birding, and upon arrival I managed to get a walk along the coastline. I managed to see some common coastline species, including Great Black Backed Gulls, European Herring Gulls, Whimbrel and Eurasian Curlews. An unexpected lifer came in the form of a flock of Rock Pipits. A Eurasian Collared Dove also perched out briefly.

The next day, I headed out further to try and find some chats and wheatears near the grassland areas. I also tried some sea watching whilst walking, where I hoped to get some new birds. I started scanning the sea, where I picked up a few dozen Northern Gannets. As I continued scanning, I noticed a flock of ducks flying far out, and after checking photos I found out they were Common Scoters.

As I passed the grassy areas, I noticed loads of European Stonechats, and I managed to see a Whinchat amongst them but it was too quick for a pic. A Eurasian Kestrel was seen perched on the cliffs too.

By this point I had reached an area with lots of bush and heath, and I thought this habitat looked quite similar to the one where I had seen Dartford Warblers two years back. Not thinking much of it, I continued on walking, until I noticed a few birds flitting around in the low bushes. A quick scan showed them to be Willow Warblers, Chiffchaffs and Wrens. As I was about to move, a smaller greyish prinia-like bird flew out and started foraging close to me, and at that moment I knew it was a Dartford Warbler! I observed it for a few minutes, and it was soon joined by a 4 other Dartford, making the total number 5!

As I turned to leave, a female Northern Wheatear flew out from under the cliffs and perched for a few seconds, just enough for me to grab a record shot! With that, I headed back to my guardian’s house. A few Eurasian Skylarks were seen flying around too.

Upon checking photos, I found that I had photographed a European Shag and a Manx Shearwater, both which were lifers which I didn't notice before.

Some mammals seen on my short visit to East Sussex included Red Foxes and Grey Seals.

The next weekend I stayed over a friend’s place who lived in Hampshire, where I got a few UK ticks, including Eurasian Wigeon, Green-winged Teal and a few distant Common Snipes. A pair of Northern Lapwings were also seen.
我下个星期去了我的朋友的家，看到几种鸟，有赤頸鴨，绿翅鸭，扇尾沙锥和凤頭麥雞。

Back in school, thanks to a few birders there, I saw the resident pair of Peregrine Falcons on the main school tower. I also saw a few large flocks of mainly Song thrushes and a few Mistle Thrushes. Other common birds seen on the school grounds includes Lesser Black Backed Gulls, Common Firecrest, Great Spotted Woodpecker and Ring Necked Pheasants.
