There was the Big Bird Race on the 7th of March, me and my team achieved 3rd place overall in terms of birds seen, totalling 111 species. There were mainly common species, however I did find a few rarities, including a Ruff feeding far out on the pond at 16/17.
三月7日WWF又一个观鸟比赛，我的组看到了111鸟类。很多都是普通的鸟，最特别是一只流苏鹬。

There were also other waders, including Far Eastern Curlew, Eurasian Curlews, Whimbrels, Black Tailed and Bar Tailed Godwits.

Before our wintering ducks left, I did see most of the species, including all the usual ones, but some of the rarer ones included Falcated Ducks and Gadwalls.

Prantincoles have arrived in large numbers during early March, I counted at least 24 perched on a dried fishpond in San Tin, they were quite approachable as they had recently arrived.

Our wintering eagles usually leave by late March, on the day of the race I got both Greater Spotted and Imperial. Other than that, most of the species were the ones which I would expect in Mai Po.

A Peregrine Falcon was also seen being chased by a Black Kite through the scrape. An Eastern Marsh Harrier and Crested Goshawk also glided through.

A Great Myna was also seen within a flock of Crested and Common Mynas.

Shortly after the race, a Slender Billed Gull was reported, so I was back the next weekend to try to find it. However, despite waiting for a few hours, the bird never showed, but I did find a rarity in the form of an adult Common Gull. It had many birders stumped for some time, as it had an orange bill which was not typical for a Kamchatka Gull, which is the race which we usually get in Hong Kong.
比赛之后有人报了只細嘴鷗，所以下个周末我又去了那里，想找到它。尽管等了几个小时，那只鸟始终没有出现，但我却意外地发现了一只海鸥。

Other than the Ruff seen on the day of BBR, I also visited Mai Po later in spring, where I found another Ruff! Although it was closer than the first one, it was still quite far away.

On my second visit, there were a good variety of other waders present, including Ruddy Turnstones, Great Knots, Far Eastern Curlews and Long Toed Stints.

A Little Curlew had been found on the scrape on the day I went, I managed brief views of it before it flew far away and tucked down into the grass.

Some of the more standard waders we get during migration includes Terek Sandpiper, Whimbrel and plovers. A Greater Painted Snipe was also present.

The Little Heron was still in the same place as where I had last seen it, however it had gotten more skittish and flew every time I approached.

There has been a rarity in the form of an Ijima's Leaf Warbler over at Po Toi in March, however with the new studies, we won't know if it is an Ijima's or Tokara's Leaf Warbler, as without their calls or DNA, they are visually indistinguishable.
三月份在蒲台出现了一只飯島柳鶯，然而，由于新的研究，我们无法知道它是飯島柳鶯还是Tokara柳莺，因为如果没有它们的叫声或DNA，它们在外观上是分不到的。
Ijima's Leaf Warbler
During April, I only had time to visit our migrating flycatchers once, and I managed to get Narcissus and Blue and White Flycatcher.

A Chinese Egret had been reported in Cha Kwo Ling Promonade, this was an interesting place for a Chinese Egret, as it was in a urban environment. When I arrived, the egret was seen perching on some plastic floats a bit far out. In the coming days, 3 were found, which proved that urban places can still host this species which usually is seen in mudflas.
有人报告说在茶果岭发现了一只黄嘴白鹭，这对黄嘴白鹭来说是个有趣的地方，因为这里是城市环境。我到达时，看到这只白鹭站在稍远处的几个塑料浮标上。

Hundreds of marsh terns were also present, including White Winged and Whiskered, however only the latter flew close to the harbour for some closer pics.

Spring is a good time for seawatching, I managed to see a Short-tailed Shearwater, which is a new species for me! However it was quite quick and I only managed record shots.

Over at Tai Mo Shan, the Pale Blue was still there, however I only heard it and it did not show. The Lesser Cuckoos there were quite active, but they were quite hard to spot as they sang from the treetops.

A pair of Bay Woodpeckers has also been active in the area, they allowed close views of this usually easily scared species.

Over at my patch, spring has been pretty underwhelming, I did not see much of interest, most were just common migrants. Near the start of May, I got good numbers of classical late species, including Brown Shrike, Arctic Warblers and Grey Streaked Flycatchers.

There was one Grey Streaked Flycatcher which looked different from the other, I believe it was just an individual variation, but still an interesting bird which I have never seen before.

Another local resident has came back for the year over at the catchwater, I heard multiple Hainan Blue Flycatchers singing throughout the spring and into the summer.
又有一位当地居民回来了，我在整个春天和夏天都听到了多只海南蓝仙鹟的鸣叫声。
