This past month, it has been really hot, but I did some birding on a few days. Birding in Hong Kong in summer is the worst time, but there are some different birds such as summer visitors.
My best bird was the pair of black baza near Sheung Shui, this is the last breeding pair of bazas left in Hong Kong, so it naturally attracted a lot of photographers there. The pair was nesting here for many years, but because of the area near and around it was heavily developed and still under construction, I was quite surprised that the bazas did not just leave.

Around the area of the baza, a family of hair crested drongos kept flying in and out of sight and had us confused for the baza, and one finally came out into the open and I got a some photos.

I paid a visit to Lions Nature Education Centre to look for the cuckoo, which we only saw, but the local birds were as active as ever.

Over at Sai Kung Pier, a white bellied sea eagle had attracted dozens of photographers, I went for 2 hours, and while waiting for the sea eagle, I watched the the black kites flying around and fighting for food.

As the sun was setting, the sea eagle finally appeared, but it stayed high up in the air. Other birds that were seen before we left was a pair of black crowned night heron.

Near the end of the month, I went to Tai Po Kau for the flowerpecker, and soon after we arrived, we I got a plain flowerpecker feeding on the fruits.

While we were waiting for the flowerpecker, we added a pair of great barbets which stayed high up in the trees near there nest.

Finally, after a long wait, the male appeared and showed beautifully and it was soon joined by a juvenile.
