May has been a quiet month, but nevertheless I have found a few migrants dotted around.
On a hike up Tai Mo Shan with Matthew Kwan, we found a chinese grassbird, which gave good views.

Other than the Chinese grassbird, there were a few Chinese francolins and a russet bush warbler, but only the francolin showed.

Back down in Mai Po, white-winged and whiskered terns were abundant, I don’t remember seeing so many white winged black terns before!

On pond 16/17, there was a greater painted snipe family, three chicks, a male and a female.

Over at Tai Sang Wai, breeding season is well underway, with multiple nests of little grebes, though none seems to have chicks yet.

The terns here were way more confiding and allowed close approach, but they were mainly whiskered terns.

I paid a visit to Tai Po Kau at the end of the month, where I found a really confiding male Hainan Blue Flycatcher singing away.

Closer to home, a crested serpent eagle has claimed his territory near the reservoir, and allowed close flybys.
