Hong Kong has finally cooled down at the end of October with it dropping from 30C to 15C in just days! With this cold temperature came more migrants and easier birding. I visited Long Valley near the start of the month, where there has been an influx of Red Necked Phalaropes after the passage of Super Typhoon Ragasa. When I went, there were over 60 individuals, certainly a high count for Long Valley! Mixed inside the phalaropes, I also found a Long Toed Stint, though I only managed a brief view before it flew off and I was not able to relocate it.
香港十月底终于降温，气温在短短几天内从30度骤降至15度！随着气温下降，候鸟数量增多，观鸟也变得更加容易。我去了塱原，因为台风过了有60只紅頸瓣蹼鷸，是很多的！在紅頸瓣蹼鷸里面，我都看到了一只长趾滨鹬，但是它很快都飞走了。

Other than that there were plenty of other birds seen, including many snipes. Most were Common Snipes, although some were also “Swintail Snipes”, which birders called it they could not identify if they were Pin tailed or Swinhoe’s Snipe. Black Winged Stilts were in no short supply, I counted almost 100 on one of my visits!
以外那种鸟，都有很多不同的沙錐，很多都是扇尾沙錐，但是有几只是任何針尾沙錐或者是大沙锥。我看到了很多只黑翅長腳鷸，我看到了差不多100只！

Other common birds in the area included White Throated Kingfishers, Marsh Sandpipers, Wood Sandpipers, and I even found my first Amur Stonechat of this season!

On my other visits there, I also found a nice selection of migrants, including many buntings, with there being Chestnut Eared and Yellow Breasted which I was able to get photos of.

There were some other goodies dotted around, including pipits and wagtails. I managed to find many Eastern Yellow Wagtails, Red Throated Pipits and a Pechora Pipit. I was pretty lucky, since the Pechora Pipit flew overhead, and I managed to hear it's distinct flight call of ID it.

There were also quite a range of resident birds, all of which shows very well. I managed to find a Medium Egret, Plain Prinia, Common Kingfisher, Black Drongo and Oriental Magpie.

Reed warblers and warblers were in no short supply, with me flushing therm whenever I walked past tall grass. Although there were a lot of them, it did not make reed warblers easier to photograph. I managed to see Black Browed Reed Warbler, Pallas' Grasshopper Warbler, Lanceolated Warbler, Dusky Warbler and Oriental Reed Warbler, but I only managed to get shots of the latter.

Ducks have returned for the winter, I was able to find a few in the ponds of Ho Sheung Heung, I got many Green Winged Teals. In the grasses around the ponds, I also picked up a Zitting Cisticola.

I also visited Tai Lam Country Park, where other birders saw Black Paradise Flycatchers and other goodies. However, I was not able to repeat this luck, despite birders seeing two just 5 minutes before I arrived to the magic valley! However, I did encounter a fairly large bird wave, which had many resident species, including many Grey Chinned Minivets, Fire Breasted Flowerpeckers and more.

There were also a few migrants mixed inside the large flock, including Hainan Blue Flycatchers, Black Winged Cuckooshrikes and I did find a Hartert's Leaf Warbler, which fed by climbing along the tree like a nuthatch.

There were a few ground birds, including at lest one female Siberian Blue Robin which was feeding by the trail but flew off as soon as I approached and a possible White Tailed Robin female. Other than that, I also saw at least 2 Orange Headed Thrushes, feeding on the ground and on a large fruiting tree above the trail.

On our way back, I spotted at least 3 Oriental Dollarbirds perched on the bare trees on the top side of the other side on the valley.

Telford Gardens, located inside Telford Plaza, has gotten quite a few migrants in recent years, most notably the Band Bellied Crake last year. Another species of the Rallidae family has shown up this year, which was the Slaty Legged Crake. When I went, it was very skulky and was constantly covered by grasses and bushes, only allowing a brief view through gaps.

Keeping on the topic of city birding, I also visited Ho Man Tin, where many birders go there since it is a migrant trap. When I went, I didn't find anything special, only Asian Brown Flycatcher, Blue Whistling Thrush, Arctic Warbler and Brown Shrike.

Ashy Drongos have arrived in my local patch for the winter, with multiple individuals recorded just a few steps from my apartment building. I recognized a few individuals from the previous season, which was interesting to see. However, I am still waiting to see if the hopwoodi blackish race of the drongo will arrive soon.

Other than that, there were also a few Hair Crested Drongos around, a species which I had not seen for a few years. I also had the first record of Black Drongos in Caldecott Road, which I saw a flock of 4 flyover.

Other than drongos, I also found other migrants along the road, including Brown Shrikes, Black Naped Orioles, Yellow Browed Warblers and Richard's Pipits.

There were also raptors species seen, most notably a Crested Serpent Eagle which perched nicely at eye level for as I long as I wanted!

In my hikes near my home, I also had so success with many good birds by the catchwater. I found many bird waves with classic forest species, including Scarlet and Grey Chinned Minivets, Rufous Capped Babblers, Velvet Fronted Nuthatches and many others.

Other than that, I also managed to find a few migrants, including warblers. I saw Eastern Crowned Warblers and Pale Legged Leaf Warbler.

In terms of other other species, I also managed Black Winged Cuckooshrikes, Grey Wagtails and Eastern Cattle Egrets. Indochinese Yuhinas have returned for the winter, with the loud call while foraging it is easy to spot. Mixed in with the Yuhinas I also managed to find a White Bellied Erpornis.
